poem about visits from my daughter
A Visit from Lenore

Hurtling up the stairs, the cat defies gravity
As chaos bursts through the door.
Charles and Griffey, two good natured oafs of dogs
Fly past the kitchen going four directions all at once
And all of them in my way
As I try to make some headway toward the porch.
My son-in-law lets down his bags to give me hugs.
A good and generous young man, I love him lots.
Then, there she is, like an armful of roses, my daughter.
Keys and camera and dog bag in one hand, she gives me
Half an embrace and she smiles.
We like each other.
What could be better?
