Reflections of returning to the nest, to see it will soon be empty.
Preface:
I wrote this upon reflection of my baby sister's upcoming graduation from High School. (I moved away when my 3 siblings were in elementary school, and regretfully missed much of their youth.)
--------------------------------------------------

There once was a young traveler
Who thought she was all grown.
She packed her things and said goodbye
And went out on her own.

She had adventures, made mistakes,
And let her heart get broken.
But all the while, across the miles
Her heart's words went unspoken.

For, half a day's trip down the map,
Remained her home sweet home,
And all those who loved her enough
To let her spirit roam.

But as she sowed and reaped her own
She missed the others' blooms;
The butterfly a woman now,
Her brothers both are grooms.

She wonders as she sees herself
A glimmer in her sister,
If she will ever truly know
How much she's always missed her.
