a soldiers story
He's barely 18, not quite
a man. In fatigues and
beret, with rifle in hand.

Terrified, but he'll never
say. Go fight for your
country. Be strong and be
brave.

Looking forward to letters from
mom. "Please come home soon son,
you've been gone way to long."

Gunshots and blasts, thats what
he hears. People are screaming,
children in tears.

A bloody trail, he marches on.
Wondering each night if he'll
waken at dawn.

And for each enemy life he takes,
his own soul crumbles and begins
to break.

After a year he gets a prize.
It's time to go home son your
still alive.

He returns home but not quite
the same. Few smiles he shows,
just a face full of pain.

Prescription drugs to fight
depression. Sedatives control
aggression.

"Oh what happened to my little man?
Who fought for our country and made
such a stand?"

Just a shell now, nothing remains.
His notorized document says legally
insane.
