A fairytale of love.
Two Halves

It takes two halves
To make a whole,
Two kindred spirits
To make one soul.

I once loved a man
Deep and true
Who broke my heart,
Cleaved it in two.

My wounded heart
But half itself,
I then locked up
On a lonely shelf.

Several men tried
But, yet, in vain,
To draw it out,
Make it feel again.

Afraid to lose
The half that was left,
I kept it hidden
Lest it be cleft.

Not but a prince
Could unlock the door
And bring it out
To be full once more.

And when he came
In all his valor
My lonely heart
Was fraught with pallor.

He held it close
And loved it much
Until it pounded
With his touch.

Then one day,
Upon his knee,
He smiled and said,
"Will you marry me?

"You see that I
Will care for your heart
For I have loved it
from the start."

His speech was such
That I could not resist,
I said, "Yes," he rose,
And we kissed.

Now my heart
Once half itself,
By true love,
Rescued from the shelf.

Half a heart
Did barely live,
And being thus,
Was hard to give.

But...

These two halves
Now make a whole,
And two kindred spirits
Now make one soul.
