This is about a tough softball loss
The Game

It was a night like a dream.
The cool summer breeze
Hit my body
With a gentle ease.

The crowd was small
But beginning to grow
For the game had just started
But little did they know.

In the bottom of the second
We scored two
But by the six innning
Four was all we could do.

The top of the seventh
Brought us bad luck
And by the end of the inning
The Gaels had struck.

Their bats came alive
As ours died down
Pretty soon in the crowd
I saw the whole town.

The game was long
We needed to go
But with runners in scoring position
Their pitcher said no.

She sat us down
One, two, three
No one in our dugout
Shouted with glee.

Finally in the top
Of eleven
The Gaels got
Some help from heaven.

They scored their fifth
We were no longer tied
My good feeling
Had just about died.

As we ended the game
With a 4-5 loss
It was all I could do
Not to look cross.

As I sat in the quiet shed
Taking off my shoes
The feeling hit me
That I hate to lose.
