A poem about love and desire, all the stronger for being unfulfilled.
Are you thinking of me?
Am I on your mind as you are on mine?
Is that your lips I feel,
brushing against my own…
A lick of air,
a whispering promise
of pleasures yet to come.

You fill my very being.
The scent of you lingers around me
long after you are gone,
touching me the way you don’t…
A gentle caress
from this unsubstantial something
that is part of you.

I want you.
Touching you is so natural
I must remind myself
that you are not mine…
To see you
To bathe in your presence and attention
yet not have you.

Do you love me?
You say you want to be near me
Your smile is mischievous
but your eyes speak a secret language…
I know you
I recognised you the first time we kissed
too late.
