This is a short poem that speaks to the most difficult of times in relationships.
The atmosphere is thick
Wasting my time and yours
The hours spent here
Are dry
Like the patchy heat of a woodstove
Burning me
And wilting the very flesh
Of this unmistakable thinness
That has become routine now
I don’t know to weaken the blister
Of your contentment
Of your conviction
To keep this wedge so tightly fitted
Between us
