Inspired by a song by Ani Difranco called "You Had Time."
You had time
To call, drive by, stop in at work,
Hell, to write a love letter.
Maybe just a like letter.
When I wasn't there you were eager;
Now I'm here and you're gone.
I'm trying not to push,
Trying to do what all the magazines say.
At least I'm trying.
The night you told me you wanted out--
Not of us but this town--
I thought this might work.
On that creaky swing by the river
My heart soared with your dreams
So similar to my own.
I took a chance.
Don't push.
I'm trying.
You had time,
But mine is running out.
