A poem about a cold-hearted man.
This morning
I was reminded of you
as I stood at the kitchen sink
filling my glass with water,
watching the ice cubes levitate.

Ice floats,
rises above its circumstances
while retaining its composure.
Smooth, clear -
no feelings, no pain.

And you have risen,
floating in the tears I've cried.
Unruffled, unresponsive,
distant and deadly.

You'd melt
if you knew you wouldn't
drown yourself.
