Like A Rose

Love of the heart
Is a red red rose
Soft and tender
Fragile and shy
At first
Blossoming into its own
Beauty
Soft and fiery
Rare and bountiful
But not without
Its thorns
Sharp and biting
Deep and scarring
Drawing blood
That matches the hue
Of the red red rose
Forever lasting
Only a time
As the petals drop
One by one
Elegant and ravaged
Simple and trampled
Like the precious petals
Of the red red rose

~~~~~
The Storm
A tiny flower
Slowly relaxes
Its zealously blue
Petals
Into the velvety
Mud
No longer fighting
Against the
Quarrelsome
Rain
Which
Paired with the
Jeering wind
Slaughters everything
In its
Path
~~~~~
Water

Invisible
At first
But slowly
Growing
Minutely
Then larger
Faster
Welling from
Its dark
Prison
Swelling
Pushing its
Boundaries
Until its
Falling
Suddenly
Long and
Round
Doom
Looming ever
Closer ever
Faster
Shatters against
The cold
Hard marble
Into round
Again
In the air
And on the ground
Still
Quiet
Puddle
As an invisible
Twin
Grows
High above
Again

~~~~~
Nearing Spring
Poking through
The melting snow
A fresh green stem
Rears its minute head
Topped with a round
Hat that carries
Tightly bundled
Hues of pale
Vermilion
To unfurl
And grace the world
At the first
Bird’s song
Butterfly Kisses
Droning june beetles interrupt
The lazy summer afternoon
Robins dart in and out
Of the trailing curtains of the
Majestic willow tree
Standing guard
Ancient yet firm
As two snooze on
Beneath the branches
A butterfly
Lights upon her nose
Another flits between his toes
Daintily as lashes on a cheeks
Quiet as mice
And just as meek
Her satin red curls
Mingle with the grasses
His arm cushions her head
As the other draws her closer
To his bare chest
Her leg drapes across
His still damp jeans
From their earlier wading
Through the chilly creek
Innocently dozing
The pair cuddles closer
As the butterflies
Flutter on
Slowly
He stirs
And lazily
Places
A tender kiss
Upon her forehead
Faint and soft
As the dancing feet of
Butterflies
~~~~~
Death

Tearing her soul
In half
Opening a dam
That holds back
Salty oceans
Of tears
Running down
Freckled cheeks
Wetting small
Hands
Clasped tightly
In prayer
Shrieks of
Pain as the
Partition of the
Soul departs
That held
The life so
Close
To her heart
A caring hand
Lays a gentle
Caress
On the curly
Blonde head
That sits
Atop shoulders
Wracked with sobs
The hand pulls her
Closer
Into a loving
Embrace
Kind lips
Press softly
Upon her forehead
Furrowed with grief
Whispered words
Of comfort
Wind their way
To her
Ear
As she is rocked
Soothingly
With arms wrapped
Around her
Secure
Hoarse
Is the throat
Tired form screaming
Puffy red
Eyes
Have tears to
Cry
No more
Sleep
Slow in coming
Eases the grimace
Trapped in the
Face of the orphan
A lonely six year old
Girl
With nothing
Left
