Phillip was a close friend of mine. He died at age 13, last October. This I wrote for him.
Gone, but Never Forgotten

Through the wrath of the Reaper,
The Salvation of the grim,
He helps us still endeavor,
Forever we love him,

He may be gone but not forgotten,
Taken but not lost,
He is smiling down forever,
No matter what the cost,

Smiling down forever,
He now has eternal bliss,
Earned his cloud too early,
Though received an angel’s kiss,

Thirteen is not a life,
But with the happiness he strung,
We can now learn a lesson,
The truly good die young,

So many lives he’s touched,
Through his endearing smiles,
So widely was he loved,
His precession went for miles,

Of our small town of eight
Thousand knew his name,
Seven thousand people touched,
Those seven thousand came,

Beautiful purple and white they were,
Flowers spread out wide,
Forever rooting on the Chiefs,
That’s how he would have died,

The football team that was his life,
Ravaged by this loss,
Incredulous they said a prayer,
By him, and by the Cross,

The funeral, we all had cried,
Completely seized by tears,
But we have pictures of his smile,
That purge us of our fears,

He died in peace, deep in his sleep,
What happened, we know not,
But he is rooted in our hearts,
Securely in his spot,

We thank God not for his death,
Though we do not think Him rotten,
But one last thing we say to Phillip,

You are gone, but not forgotten.
