A metaphorical poem using the life of a butterfly to shows the stages of the seasons.
Hanging high from unfurling leaf
Enclosed within an empty shell
he lies curled in waking sleep
with gentle dreams too sweet to tell.
his sun has dawned and now he blooms
broad wings of colour from his cacoon.

Out he curls from a world much duller
then this adventurous realm of chance
fillied with scents, mixed sounds, vast colour
which he explores through graceful dance.
his sun is centered, drowned in sky
shining where the flowers cry.

But his youth begins to seep
his dancing slows and soon he falls
faster than the crisping leaf
to perch himself on garden wall.
his sun's begun its slow decent
with trees turned brown and flowers bent.

Skies run black and bricks turn cold
he accepts his final breath
and staring back at stars too old
he clasps the icy claw of death.
shadows conquer, silence reigns.
Alas! a sun shall shine again.
