Have you ever wondered what cathedrals pray for?
A Recollection of Time and Prayer

The stained glass windowpanes of cathedrals fade…
They pray…
For the windowpanes to stand against the burden of old age.
They pray…
For the Saints displayed in mosaic harmony to remain.
The wood of the crucifixes fade.
They pray…as they watch the strong oak decay.
Splinters fall silently to the floor.
In rebellion against the prayer…
The glass and the wood reveal that they were not meant to stay.
And yet they pray, and yet they pray.
The cathedrals groan against the punishment…
Of being chosen as the establishment of worship.
The cathedrals pray, to be saved.
Angered by the sacrilege…the people prayed.
For the destruction of the windowpanes that began to fade,
For the burning of the wood marred by decay,
For the betrayal of the cathedrals that wanted to be saved.
They prayed until their Savior came.
He stood before them and watched them fade.
He stood before them and saw decay.
He stood before them as they begged to be saved.
The glass shattered, and the shards ripped into worn flesh.
The wood splinted, and the tiny slivers were driven into worn flesh.
The walls collapsed, as the burden of their establishment fell around them.
Their Savior prayed…
For new walls to be erected.
For new windowpanes that would not be worn thin by dust and negligence.
For new wood that would not crucify its life away.
All that remained of the sinners, was a recollection of time and prayer.
