a little something I wrote for my baby girl
Big blue eyes sparkling
In the glow of a nightlight,
Filled with dreams of days
Still to come in her young,
Innocent, very precious, life.

The sun has set. The moon
Is now in charge of radiating
The Earth. And the little girl
Rests her long blonde curls
Upon her pink pillowcase.

“I’ll read you a story Daddy,”
She pulls out an old favorite,
A tale of a princess in a kingdom
Faraway. “You like this one,
Don’t you?” I nod in agreement.

“Tell me a story Daddy. Just
One before I sleep,” she begs.
I spin up a tale of a princess, of
Course, with sparkling blue eyes
And a head of long blonde curls.

“This story is about me right,
Daddy? Because I’m your little
Princess,” she catches on. “Of
Course,” I reply with a smile and
Continue my tale of the princess.

“Another one, please? Just one
More,” she says looking at me
With sleepy eyes. “You shall
Dream a tale better than any
I can tell,” I assure the princess.

“About a princess or a singer
Or an actress or a dancer,” her
Mind is calculating possibilities,
“No, a teacher like you or a
Mama or even a cheerleader.”

“Close your eyes Bug and you
Will see what faraway place
You may visit tonight. Sleep
Tight my little angel,” I pull her
Blankets close and kiss her head.

The moon shines through the
Curtains on the sleeping girl
With blonde curls who tonight
Is visiting a faraway place that
She can only dream of for now.
