If only they knew how each other felt
I

She has on a bandeau bikini top,
White with little green dots sprinkled haphazardly across it.
Barefoot in the garden with a slinky black skirt on.
She’s holding a vibrant pink drink in a martini glass in her hand.
She studies the poppies, hibiscus, daffodils, roses.
They look past her to the giant lion in the sky,
His fiery tongue blanketing their bobble heads with light.
Her fingers caress the soft whipped cream-like petals.
They must be smiling inside their little stems.
Their roots must tingle at the touch of her sugar scrubbed legs when she strolls past them. Their colors must explode at the scent of
Her wet, auburn hair that lingers on her shoulders.

Yes, the poppies, marigolds, blades of grass, rose bushes,
Shade trees, baby birds in their wooden houses...they've all watched her grace.
They've watched me stumble on pebbles while she dances to “Lay Lady Lay,” in the rain.

His stare is a sunbeam through the window.
I can feel it warm my whole body, excite my spirit.
I know his salty, beach hair, his baby-pink lips,
His sunburned cheeks shedding bits of skin.
But I only want to know him more.
Know him with my fingers, my mouth, my being, and not just with my eyes.
Summer nights, naked in bed, a breeze cooling the sticky bodies wet with sweat.
Come out from behind your eyes.
I want more than your daydream wishes.
