This poem emphasizes sound. Read it aloud for full effect.
Descending into dim dark, one stair a step,
Downward he clunked with clumsy feet;
Foot by foot he felt
For stairs he thought he’d meet.

Once met, he’d lift and lower
And feel for more and more;
Clunk, creak, thump, ahhhhh…
He finally found the floor.

With a click and a snap the lights flicked on;
Warmth bathed the eerie room;
He quickly grabbed his mission
From that dusty, dreary tomb.

Click went the light, back to black
He sprang up the staircase;
Foot by foot, yard by yaaaard!
He fell flat on his face.

Blood slowly slithered from his shnoz;
Red fluid flowed down the wooden flight;
Bright stars shimmered in his eyes
An artificial night.
