A journey back in her mind.
It's September One 2006.
Dwellings are drowning again
in the Ninth Ward of New Orleans.

In Lafayette, Louisiana,
Christina Leveaux awakens,
feet duel with covers.
Drenched sheets kicked around
like churning water.

Devoted to a dream
of one day returning home,
Christina dresses for work.
The Weather Channel shows
another tropical depression
in the Caribbean.

There is no doubt this one
could become another Katrina.
Tonight Christina will
dream the same dream.
She fights the flooding tide,
in desperation and desire,
trying to keep her husband's
head above the dirty water.

It's September One 2006.
Dwellings are drowning again.
Her dreams never take her far
from the Ninth Ward
and New Orleans.
