This is a sonnet about a friend who began dragging me into his darker side.
Not his heartbreaks, nor his sorrows
Can move me from my standing place,
He had pushed away all of our tomorrows
While I tried help him move past his disgrace.

I watched him sit and wait for Hades,
The god whom I most despise,
I imagined him with his soulless crusades
As the tears were falling from my eyes.

You drove me to the doors of Hell,
I teetered on the edge,
It nearly swallowed me like a whale
Until I stepped back from the ledge.

I narrowly avoided Jonah’s fate,
As you cursed me with your lies and hate.
