stripping it down to its essence.
there is no physical trace of you left
on my body
not a bruise or a scratch
not an eyelash
not one flake of skin
not one small sperm cell
left within my vagina
everything has passed through and out
lathered up and rinsed away
down the drain

yet you're here
i'm certain

study an xray of my heart
your imprint is visible
etched on my right ventricle
examine the spiraling helix of my dna
your input is obvious
tagged on my genetic code
right there
plain as day

that would mean
you've always been there
you'll always be

in spite of time and space and distance
and other lovers

it just is
i just
am you
just are
we
