The ocean is nice, but the trip is the thing
The Trip To The Ocean

I said I wanted to see the ocean.
They said I should be more specific.
Was it the Indian, Atlantic, Antarctic,
Or maybe it was the Pacific.

I said, "I don't care, let's get on the road."
And the way we headed was east.
When we got to the plains, to our utter disgust
We saw a fox with a prairie dog feast.

The hungry fox was feeding her kits
And when they were full, they played.
Utter disgust turned to joy and elation
At the touching sight this made.

We drove over mountains that stroked the sky,
With air cold, and thin, and still.
We thought when we got to the other side,
We'd be stuck with a permanent chill.

But then we saw elk does with babies at play
In the sunset's rosy-orange glow.
It shown from the mountain tops high above,
And reflected on new fallen snow.

After a while, we arrived at the ocean
With it's waves, and seafoam, and spray.
We didn't want to stay there long.
But wanted to be on our way.

Awesome as the ocean was,
The trip here pleased us the best.
So, we turned our car back around
And, slowly, drove back to the west.
