Re-release of a poem that is about moving on and growing as a person
The Thread of Life
By
Jaxon Washington

I’ve been contemplating calling it quits
It's perfectly legit
All this rainy, morning story telling has knocked me down
I’ve been anticipating sleeping the last day of this life
Ripe from strife
Just to wake up shiny Sunday morning

I've tried to open my heart and not to cry
To only face the fear of getting by
Suddenly I am taken back to you

It seems I’m giving way
and always giving up
Tired from getting by and done with keeping shut

Not any more….. I’m settling the score

This is the last day of this life
This is the first day of my life
This is the first day that I try
To put a face to fear
I’m settling the score

My eyes are dry, no more well from which to sigh
My grip is slipping from the thread of life
I find I’m spoiling the fruit of the seeds I have sown
No longer controlling what was once my own.

To let fear win now would be simply benign
Not no more, I’m settling the score

This is the last day of this life
This is the first day of my life
This is the first day that I try
To put a face to fear
I’m settling the score

I’m giving way
Giving up
Getting by
And shutting up

Not any more I am settling the score
