Standing under the wire is not a smart thing to do Written for Lexis Poetry Contest
Under The Wire

Standing under a wire is not a smart thing to do.
You never can be sure what might happen to you.

If the wire was struck by lightning, and you were standing there,
It might be attracted to you and singe off all your hair.

If the wire was downed by something quite large,
It could land on your head with a jolty charge.

If the wire was coated by frozen rain from last night,
Slivers might drop in your eye, depriving you of sight.

If on the wire gathered all different breeds of birds,
You might end up covered in, well, you rhyme the right words.

Standing under a wire is not a smart thing to do.
You can never be sure what might happen to you.
