For a lover that left.
Feels Like Leaving...
Zero

Don't be afraid
we're finally alone,
there's nothing
but our chilled breaths
and the rain
outside the window.

It is dark
but there's light
in your eyes
hidden,
from everyone except me.
Your words are chosen
so carefully,
Your eyes set on the floor.
I'm in for disappointment
I can feel it,
bad news, I am sure
but when you whisper, "I love you"
after our good-bye kiss
I know you really mean it.

You leave me
standing alone,
surrounded by the storm
we both know
you're never coming back
but it's a feeling
we both hide.
I'm not ready to let go
but I know
I have to move on.

Whoever it was
that told me that love could kill,
could leave you so broken,
wishing you were numb,
was the smartest person I ever knew
-wait,
That was you.
