Study of the Pied Piper of Hamlin, as a celebration of youth and freedom
Beat the can; drum the call for all the pipers’ children.
Who would join the misadventure?
Which of you can whistle well?
And trumpet up the party bells for all the piper’s children?
Through the crack in rocky fells, down around
The spinning path below, the wells,
The orifice, the mountain song engulfed in snow
For all the piper’s children.
Who will help me march ahead?
Light the tinder, kindred spirits must be fed
And bedded down among us.
Who will make the beds?
Who will mend the spitting cauldron?
And maybe cook some soup and bread
For all the piper’s children.
Up the gorge, forget the songs you drank to
Hum a new one, beat the clock
and smash the cogs you sprang to.
Remember all the wedding bells
The fat men at the helm
Of every home and charity, the carousels
You paid for, now you dance for free,
Gleeful now you see that you are all the piper’s children.
