She walks, though she doesn't know why.
She Walks

She walks.
She doesn’t know why,
but she walks.
The sand burns beneath her feet,
the waves lap gently
in and out
as if to say
“Your presence here
means nothing--
you cannot change us.”
She walks.
The breeze is warm
but still her soul shivers.
Nothing about this place is still
except the darkness,
which rests heavily,
silently.
It does nothing to announce
its presence.
Patiently it waits;
she gazes out,
looks towards the horizon
and finds the closest thing
to Eternity
she has ever seen.
You are alive, it says;
and so she walks.
