A loose villanelle, for a Halloween contest
A dancing, crying breeze
Whispers through the wind
Come swift, my love, to me

In tops of roofs and trees
In corners of the mind
A dancing, crying breeze

I hear her voice, so sweet
By grief, her call confined
Come swift, my love, to me

O'er miles of land and sea
Through trial and loss and time
A dancing, crying breeze

Brings word for him to dream
Of breath and life resigned
Come swift, my love, to me

And by his one last deed
Their loving hearts entwined
A dancing, crying breeze
Come swift, my love, to me
