haiku, written for a friend who is now half a world away.
The way your name rolls
o'er my tongue, a pull of wine
on a dark, cold night.

That April day, love,
your eyes matched the grey of the
clouds, and I noticed.

An old hotel in
Carcassone. An empty wine
bottle. We're in love.

A sudden rain pours
over a hot summer earth
and you smile at me.

In night's dark sea, when
the waves overwhelm you, I
will be your anchor.

I remember when
you and I would sway, like trees
in the autumn wind.
