Friend I Have in You

Ten little fingers and ten little toes.
You were there to wipe my little nose.
Bright red hair and sparkling blue eyes.
You were there to sing me lullabies.
With first words and steps I did take,
What a wonderful mother you did make.

Even through the rough teenage years,
You were there to wipe away the tears.
When my first love broke my heart,
You cradled me in your arms, never to depart.
The day I found out I was a mama to be,
You were there standing beside me.
At sixteen I was such a young bride,
But you were there at my side.

No matter how far I have strayed,
You stood watch over me and prayed.
A restless soul I have always been.
You have never judged—you are quick to defend.
No matter what life seems to bring,
You are there for me to cling.

You know my deepest secrets and hidden vaults,
You accept me with all my faults.
Even when the clouds are dark and I am blue,
I will never forget the friend I have in you.

With you, all my dreams I will share,
Because no other friend could compare.
Friends and lovers come and go,
But a mother’s love withstands all I know.
You’ve been there through it all,

Keeping me on my feet so I don’t fall.
I know there are times I get distant
Just be patient and persistent.

Unconditional is a mother’s love,
Which can only be sent from above.
I don’t know what I would ever do without you.
Through thick and thin you have known what to do.
Thank you for being my closet friend.
Forever at my side until the very end.
