Some metaphoric thoughts on being lonely.
Plateau, lopsided balance to the heights,
Awkward changeling, stuttering shyly,
Not so even as the rest, nor smooth,
Nor loved so well as those of symmetry.

Island, odd finite dryness, quite dirty
In the infinite clean. Strangest tides,
The bitter swell of alien hearts,
In sync, surrounding these limited sides.

Valley, skittish void, miscarriage of strength,
Inversion, negative, empty, null.
Shadow, phantom, memory of theft;
Wounded, weary, and aching to be full.

Lonely among friends; it is ungrateful,
Shameful, such an insecure love; yet
Fierce, these lesions on a lucky heart,
That fester still, and in the sun still fret.
