I have to live till I'm 106, if I am to do everything I need to.
TO BE ONE HUNDRED AND SIX.

Until I was five, I was nurtured and loved
By my parents, and I learned to be good,
Did what I was told, obeyed all the rules
As only a little girl should.

Then I went to school, made friends, and was taught
By my teachers, and I had to be good,
Did what I was told, obeyed all the rules
As only a good student should.

I grew up and got married, had children, six,
With my husband, (I loved as none could).
I did what I had to, followed the rules,
As only a wife and mum should.

Many years passed, the chicks left the nest,
Just me and him, that's how things stood,
But he became ill, and I cared for him then
As only a loving mate would.

I felt in my life I had spent all these years
Fifty three, doing just what one should,
Loving and caring through laughter and tears
The next fifty three will be GOOD!

So then on that day, I promised myself
I'd live fifty three more if I could
And do lots of things, answer only to me
And embrace life as only I should.
