An unforgettable tribute to Easter.....His death....His resurrection.....Our victory!
AN EASTER POEM

by Cindy Clabough 2006

It was two thousand years ago; the day the earth stood still
The greatest Man who ever lived hung dying on death's hill
The cool wind howled, the great earth heaved, and darkness filled the sky
There was nothing left for anyone to do but watch, wait, and cry.

Three trees killed to kill three men, on one tall hill they stood
Two thieves hung beside the one that was stained with a carpenter's blood
People gathered from near and far; to gawk; to weep; to stare
Soldiers taunted, women anguished; some just didn't care.

That fatal day so long ago would seem to never end
This Man who healed and taught them had been their loving friend
And now His body lay lifeless; carried to a borrowed tomb
Everyone was confused and grieved; no more joy - just doom.

After three days, He left that grave; the tomb lay open and bare
They looked for Him, then an angel appeared; "He's no longer here!"
Just like He promised, our friend and Savior had conquered death and sin
He lives! He's opened the gates of Heaven; that we might enter in!

Now we know the wonder and joy of having our souls set free
Let's praise our deserving Redeemer until again His face we see
For it's still not over; there is another great promise that our Lord has made
He's soon coming to snatch us off this earth; so press on, watch, wait, and pray.
