Entirely pointless, meaningless banter.
My dear Hubert,

Though we were only just speaking I feel strangely compelled to write to you. What can I say? It was wonderful to hear your actual voice after getting the dial tone for so many months. Not that I want to spoil things, just now. I may wait a week or two before I mail you this.

What a strange world we live in. Here I am, not half an hour away and yet we might as well have continents between us. What secretive creatures we have become. I recall a time when no such boundaries existed. Separation from you is separation from the universe you see. The fact is, though I live so close, I’ve heard next to nothing from anyone else.

Perhaps I exaggerate. There are certain others I correspond with, that is true. But it’s not the same, don’t you realize Hubert? With others my language becomes entirely different. I have adapted to suit my company you see. Even though they mean nothing to me.

How great it is that we are finally bridging the gap. Four years ago I would have never thought it possible. Of course we still have our work cut out for us. But things have improved so very much. Lucky stars! It’s a different universe we exist in today.

One more thing. Do you believe in coincidence?

Yours ever,
Roderick
