This is just a poem that I wrote in free verse.
I passed you on the street today
but your eyes were blind to all but one, as
you turned on that boyish charm.

Who was she, young raven haired beauty
holding your arm possessively as I did, in love
once upon my happier time.

You were winning her with that captivating Cassanova
laugh I'd heard when we met, unknowingly
working it's smooth golden charm on her.

I didn't have to glance there to see that
she was drinking it all in, quenching a thirst as
I once did, believing every sweet sparkling word.

I walked on, quickening my heavy steps, so my
burning eyes wouldn't set free their
scalding tears, not that you would see my pain.

We are now just friends, not even close ones, as
I couldn't chance that too soon with
my heart, allready broken in undying want of you.

In quiet, dark solitude I'll grieve for, and bury these foolish
dreams in my mind, and hope
that time will ease the heartache.

The mean and abusive ways that led us here, sadly
has left only friends, knowing finally
that time cannot heal all wounds, we part.

Years now behind, the hurt and memories faded, leaving
me happy again as
I passed you on the street today.....feeling no pain.
