Poem-Good Intentions gone slightly awry for New Year's
GOOD INTENTIONS

It’s New Year’s Eve and now I get
to kiss ’06 goodbye.

It was a very trying year
and I will tell you why

I so wanted to be happy
but all I did was cry.

And now I sit with pad and pen
A year to start anew.

I’m writing quite a little list
of all the things I’ll do.

I’ll loose some weight, and sit up straight
drink water and not beer.

I will not smoke and not be broke
or lie or cheat or swear.

I sit now in my living room
with Dick Clark and Time Square.

I check my watch, and eye the ball
the time is getting late

They’re starting to count down the time
first ten, then nine, then eight

The ball is dropping, it is close
I feel so all alive.

They’re down to seven, and then it’s six
and now they’re down to five.

My list is ready; it is DONE
Four, three, two and now ONE!

I grab my drink, and light a smoke
and then I start to yell.

“’06 you were a crazy year
and you can go to Hell!!!”

And then I spot my little list
and all of my solutions.

The year has barely just begun;
I’ve blown my Resolutions!!
