This is a short which was entered in to a writing contest.
I can’t begin to imagine what it would be like to be a soldier. What is it like to

wake up in a foreign land thousands of miles away from home; away from all that I

know and all that I love?

How would I feel knowing that the people of that land don’t want me to be there, in

the place that they call home? How would it make me feel knowing that to them I

am the enemy?

What if I joined the military because I wanted help my country be a safer place, but

instead I end up being sent to fight a war that I don’t believe in by a President that I

didn’t even vote for?

No, I can’t imagine ever being a soldier, but I am glad that there are people

out there who are willing to give up some their rights, their beliefs and even their life

to try to keep me safe.

I’ll never know what it is like to be a soldier, but I’d like to say thank you to

all of those women and men who are.
