Too many people thing love is corny and cliched. Where would poetry be without love?
peeled off her raincoat said it's real cold out tonight

i knew you'd be here as she stepped into the light

this may be wrong i wonder why it feels so right

so we held on to one another

i don't remember if you ever wore that dress

out summer driving when your hair was such a mess

but here's to you my dear i really must confess

i never wanted any other

well i won't lie to you i thought you were the one

your heart eclipsed mine like the moon eclipsed the sun

joyfully chained and bound there's nowhere i could run

apart from you there is no other

your eyes were sparkling like the waves upon the sea

a drifting darkling child, you came and rescued me

you saved my mortal soul from a purgatory

and held me like a blessed mother

now as i watch the firelight dance upon your skin

i feel an ebbing flow release me of my sin

it may just be the weed or it may be the gin

but all we have now is each other
