A sad poem.
I had a dream tonight
A dream of you and me.
With hearts so full of laughter
We traveled merrily.

Over hills and meadows
The paths, they led us through.
Through the light and shadows
Walking just we two.

Through the darkest valley:
The pain of yesterday
We stumbled and we faltered
But we knew we'd find our way.

And when we reached a mountain,
of troubles yet untold
we fought our way around it
through the torrents and the cold.

And then we reached an ocean,
The sea of knowledge new.
We built our boats; sailed side by side
Again we made it through.

But then we reached a door
through only one could pass.
I looked at you, and then I knew
We'd reached the end at last.

"Please don't cry for me,"
And you wiped my tears away.
"This parting's not forever,
We'll meet again someday.

"No one can live forever
Each story has its end.
But as long as you remember me,
I'll live on in my best friend."

You turned and left and then I woke
My face still wet with tears.
Then everything came back to me;
The pain of many years.

But now I know I'm not alone,
True friendship never ends.
Not even death will ever part
Me and my best friend.
