This is not a poem about self-pity, but a feeling I think many of us have.
Enough

I know you love me
But how can it be?
I look in the mirror
And hate what I see

I look at my face
And long to be pretty
All I see is ugly
But I don’t want your pity

I just want to be that girl
Who stands out in the crowd
Who you love to show off
Who makes you proud

But it’s not just looks
I want to be smart
To be witty and clever
So I can win your heart

My life should be exciting
Full of plans, mindless of cost
Truth is I don’t have a single plan
I am lost

I want you to think
That others want me, too
Not so that you are jealous
But that you are what I choose

You’ve done nothing wrong
You’ve done it all right
You treat me well
And we never fight

I know you love me
I just wish I was worth it
