A poem written for my Creative Writing class, directed toward a friend at a bad time.
You used to laugh at the drama queens
Used to criticize obsession with weight
Used to say a boy wasn’t worth your trouble
And doing what you needed meant not doing too much

So-
When exactly did you change your mind?
When did all the things that were wrong become right?
When is it you stopped being yourself
And turned into something you used to hate?

I know there’s still someone in there
Know she realizes she’s gone off the wall
Know you’ll say every so often this is wrong somehow
And that you know you’re hurting yourself this way

So-
Then why do you drive at 80 miles an hour
Why did you get a job and classes you can’t manage?
Why do you go to the gym more often than you eat?
And since when can’t I understand about the guy you keep going back to?

So-
You used to be open to the world
When did you become ashamed of you?
I know you’re just covering up and you know
Why you won’t seem to stop.

So.
Now what?
