just what came to mind late at night
I came home late one night
it was dark
not a soul in sight
I laid on my bed, my nerves had been shaken
I must've drifted off
for suddenly I was awakened
from my pleasant dream
by a child's scream
like none which i've heard before
it seemed to be coming from outside my bedroom door
I reached for the door filled with fear
as down my cheek ran a tear
I turned the knob & closed my eyes tight
but as I peeked out
not a soul was in sight
I looked around and to my surprise
on the floor laid a photo of a child with sad blue eyes
the child looked lost or scared maybe
then I realized she was no more than a baby
I pushed the image of that child out of my head
then I settled in, it was time for bed
sleep was impossible that night
before I knew it, I saw the morning light
so I said good-bye to rest
removed my blankets and reluctantly got dressed
I looked in the mirror only to see
that scared child from the night before
was only me
