This is a poem I wrote, any feedback on it would be really really appreciated.
In waking I find no solace
From the pain that grips my heart,
Like an iron fist it clutches
My soul

Thus it is in sleeping;
I tumble through that
Thunderous sky
Trying to find some meaning
I reveal my deepest darkest secrets to the night.

And finally I fall upon a dusty road,
Filled with echoes of some other life
I stumble forwards through incoherent dreams.

I reach the end of the road
And find a barren wasteland
Upon whose sands
The blood of human life forgotten
Lies forever in the mud
A single poppy flower is growing.
I look up to the heavens
And cry in anger
But I get no answer.

I see friends lying dead
Confused, deceived and misled
We thought we were fighting for freedom
For friends, families and home,
Instead we find ourselves smeared in oil

Now I am trapped behind the metal bars of my cage
I cannot escape
I turn, all I see are these grey walls
I scratch a face onto one
So I might not be alone.

There are people standing over me
Laughing, taunting and spitting
And I wonder are we not the same?
We may be different in colour, belief and
The identities that we hide behind
But we are the same: men of the human race
Why am I lesser than you? I may never know.

And so I sleep
Until I may be needed
Tumbling on the dusty road
As the storm rages on
Flying through incoherent dreams.
