A child's last breath taken.
Unknowingly being watched that day;
A seven-year-old girl in the yard at play.
Approached by a stranger and whisked away;
the tragic event occurring in the month of May.

June passed, and the child was not found,
the police and her loved ones searching all around.
No evidence discovered, where could she be?
A question unanswered to her broken family.

July and August came and went.
Television and radio messages sent.
No news came out of these things.
No more did the swallows sing.

September came, and her body was found;
raped, and then murdered, upon the ground.
Who would have imagined that a small girl at play
was destined to die at a stranger’s hand that day?

Roses were placed upon her coffin, and tears shed freely.
Her parents and loved ones left heartbroken and empty.
The stranger was located and sentenced to death
for violating, then stealing, the child’s last breath.

Never would her parents know the last words she cried,
Were “Mommy and Daddy, where can I hide?”
Her last breath stolen, her soul now in Heaven.
The heartbreaking tale of a young girl of seven.
