an open letter to my conscience
Wake up.
Stop saying how you're going to fix it
When your hands have tied you to a chair
Held hostage by the mistakes you can't let yourself forget

Please lie to me.
Even if only for the sake
Of the mystery I miss most
Now our secrets are laid bare

Give me a moment.
To think up some new words
We've run these cliche's to the ground
In a fit of what-ifs and forevers

In a moment? Well hardly
In a most uncomfortable silence
You spat love and hate
For a lack of conversation

For a sense of relief
For a second at best
I could spend my life in this moment
But not with you

Does it seem harsh?
Ever-so slightly abrasive?
Let me know how it sits
The truth, burning your chest.
