Thinking about how I ended up with so few friends...
I do remember having friends.
Although I don't remember seeing them.
They hovered above me with love and prayer,
and lended me attentive ears.
They followed me through filth and fear,
and always held my hand.

I do remember having friends,
even if I could not feel them then,
They lifted my still body,
They shook my stubborn head,
so that I might someday realize,
that it's hard to live when dead.

I do remember having friends,
even when I took from them.
They let me into thier open hearts,
I took thier offers without second thoughts.
I stole from them their hope in me,
By never giving back a single thing.

I do remember having friends,
who tried & tried & tried again.
While they were fighting for me,
I was crying for me.
They just wanted my life to begin,
and I just wanted it all to finally end.

But, I do remember having friends.
