Things we do to keep from thinking about memories can leave us only more empty inside.
Lingering glimpses of half-lived moments
confused in the context of reminiscence.
Why is it nothing's as good as it was?
Or was it ever good- until the past tense?
-
I joined in the laughter of the moment,
I drank at the parties, spilling hollow lines.
Funny, but I can't recall the jokes now...
Odd that I no longer crave the taste of wine.
-
Terrorized by gripping fear of loneliness,
staying awake until far past needing sleep-
I no longer worry that I will be without.
I worry about the company I keep.
