a springtime poem, done morbidly.
A cluster of crystailne ice
fragile layers fading in springtime sun
Glittering island amongst the mud
where the snowbank stood but yesterday
These splendid days of thaw
when small buds begin forming on the trees
and birds return from hiding
litter my mind
with the same heavy blanket of silt
that finally crushes the last snow clump
the mud carved into furrows
winter bids it's farewell,
marching in formation
to drown itself in the river
absorbed by it's ancestors
and it's grandchildren yet to be
