About how parents change as their kids get older. And accomplishments are noticed less.
I drew mom and dad a picture
When I was in kindergarten
It was of our family and dog
They hung it on the refrigerator

I wrote my dad a poem
When I was ten years old
It was about how much I loved him
He hung it on the refrigerator

I got a certificate of accomplishment
When I graduated the sixth grade
It had a gold star and my name in ink
They hung it on the refrigerator
But then took it down to make room
For my sister’s drawing

I got my report card
When I was in the 10th grade
I got all A’s and B’s
They hung it on the refrigerator for about a week

I got my Diploma
When I graduated High school
It said class of 2008
They said congrats and I’m proud of you
But they didn’t hang it on the refrigerator
