This is a poem about someone's timeless affection for someone that they cannot be with
She has always been the one
When we were young, now at 21
Her presence is mind-blowing
When I speak of her I keep going and going
She has never known of my affection
Kept secret for my heart’s protection
The thought of us being as one
Reminds me of a calm ocean reflecting the sun
At times I have wanted to share my emotions
But I did not want to send our friendship into commotion
I have watched privileged few hold her hand
In all honesty I feel I should be her man
Her feelings for me I do not know
She may agree then again she may say no
If rejected I still feel she is wrong
For she is the harmony in my song
We are older and time is moving fast
And she may date but I should be her last
I yearn for her to be my lady
Everything about her drives me crazy
From man’s rib a woman was created
So I cannot be whole if we are separated
Soon enough I will share with her my thoughts
How I have dated and other women I have sought
Yet I believe she is my only love
Truly a blessing from above
She may speak of me as a brother
On the contrary a friend can grow into a lover
Neither a prototype nor a replacement
She is the one I speak of in every statement
My feelings for her I have chosen to share
With any luck she may also care
Surely this matter she will address
That day she will either confess
No that it won’t work it will fail
Or yes then our love will set sail
