The ghosts and goblins of evening.
Twilight's haunting melodies
sneaked up over the cliffs and ravines
of the Little Missouri River.
"Daddy, what's that?"
"Maybe a bug or a bat."

Swallows swooped in the air,
catching their dinner,
as we watched the sunset.
"Daddy is that a rabbit?"
"Quiet, he will sit there a bit."

The shadows got thicker.
My tummy started to rumble.
Almost time to go into the cabin.
"Are you ready to eat baby?"
"I think I am starving, maybe!"

We laid some kindling and bark,
started a flame in the fire pit.
Ham, eggs, and toasted biscuits.
"This is the best dinner ever."
Twilight a bad time? Never!
