The assignment was "spring sonnet."
We watch the stars in the red disappear
Under the Ziggurat radio towers
Send waves to breathe in with the midnight air
Poisoning us and the fearful flowers
Rise up! It’s time you face the world again
Out of the mud, get strong to catch our fall
You’re here to please our eyes until the end
When the weeping sun will finally burn us all
Taste smoke and tin foil on the roof and hear
The TV that’s playing softly below
The flowers in the mud have shut their ears
So wise to sit in waiting for the snow
The red lights blinking ‘cross the midnight sky
Shut out the stars, hiding the satellites
